How to Migrate Roasting Data and Profiles from Artisan to Cropster
Migrating roasting data from Artisan (.alog files) to Cropster Roast involves exporting CSV time-series, mapping temperature channels, and rebuilding machine profiles in Cropster before importing historical roasts as reference curves — not as executable automation scripts.
Cropster does not ingest .alog natively as of March 2026; this guide documents the validated CSV bridge workflow used by Tim Wendelboe's Oslo lab during their 2025 platform consolidation.
Procedure
Step 1: Export Artisan logs
Artisan → File → Export CSV. Include columns: time, BT, ET, ETBT, events. Export top 20 production roasts per SKU — exclude trial roasts with incomplete event marking.
Step 2: Normalise CSV format
Cropster expects ISO timestamp or elapsed seconds from charge. Convert Artisan elapsed format in spreadsheet: column A = seconds from CHARGE event. Remove pre-heat phase rows before charge flag.
Step 3: Create Cropster machine profile
Settings → Machines → Add. Enter roaster make/model, probe offsets, and serial bridge config. This step is independent of historical import — do not skip.
Step 4: Import reference curves
Cropster → Import → Reference curves. Upload CSV, map BT/ET columns, mark FC and drop events. Cropster validates monotonic time series — fix non-monotonic rows before upload.
Step 5: Validate against live roast
Run one live production roast and overlay imported reference in Cropster compare view. End temperature within ±2 °C and DTR within ±1 pt confirms migration success.
