How to Clean and Adjust the Drum Belt on a Probat P-Series Roaster
Probat P-series drum drive belts (P05 III through P25 III) require quarterly tension inspection and annual replacement under standard production load (6 days/week, 8 batches/day).
Incorrect tension causes drum slip, uneven roast colour, and premature bearing wear on the cast-iron drum shaft. Probat service bulletin SB-P-BELT-2023 specifies 4 mm deflection at 40 N mid-span — this guide covers lockout, adjustment, and chaff contamination cleaning.

Procedure
Step 1: Lockout and cool down
Follow Probat LOTO procedure: gas valve closed, electrical disconnect locked, drum below 40 °C confirmed with IR thermometer. Allow 2-hour cool-down after last batch.
Step 2: Access belt housing
Remove rear panel screws (P05: 4× M8; P12: 6× M10). Belt runs between motor pulley and drum drive pulley. Photograph routing before removal — incorrect routing reverses drum rotation.
Step 3: Measure and adjust tension
Apply Probat tension gauge or 40 N force mid-span. Deflection target: 4 mm ± 0.5 mm. Adjust motor mount bolts incrementally — quarter-turn per check. Overtensioning destroys bearings within 200 hours.
Step 4: Clean chaff and inspect wear

Step 5: Reassemble and test
